Women Running Ganim for Boys in Their Homes

Question

My wife runs a gan in our home, and I have the following question. At the end of siman 21 in Even Ha’ezer, se’if 20, the Shulchan Aruch rules that women should not teach boys, as this could lead to a problem of yichud when the father comes to pick them up.

My wife runs a gan in our home and I was wondering if the same issur applies to her.

Thank You

Rav Zafrani

There are many schools today that have women teaching younger boys. The reason this does not conflict with the ruling of the Shulchan Aruch that you mention is because schools today are built differently and are much more open to the public, and therefore the chance of yichud is slight.

Your question is more complicated, since a home is less of a public place. The accepted p’sak is to be lenient on condition that the fathers do not go inside the home to get their child. Rather, they should wait outside the door until their child leaves by himself.
